INTERVIEW TO ODIUM INCARNATUM (Poland)

1. Hello my friend, pleasure to have you on Rotten Pages ´zine. How are you doing today? Let us set the scene first. Where do we find you right now? Please describe your surroundings.

Hello to you also, thank you for having me here! I am really good, currently over heating in the north east of England near a forest where I spend a lot of time, when im not in Europe or at home.

2. Would it be possible to tell us more about your personal musical background and how do you feel you have developed as musician?

I am from a professional performing background, I have also been involved in music since i was a child performing a lot, I have a wide taste in music from classical to the death and black metal, i work with classical and traditional, i train to heavy metal and i enjoy listening and playing black, death and early thrash inspired bands. my own development is a very ongoing and organic thing, as i feel it should be.

3. You play in different side-bands alongside with your own project Odium Incarnatum. What prompted you to explore “Black metal” musical direction?

I am only in Odium Incarnatum. I got into Black metal around 2002? then started performing and recording as a 1 piece in around 2005? i like the stripped down vibe, the production, the feeling, all of it really, its was under a funeral moon by dark throne that really inspired me and still does.

4. What challenges have you faced as an independent artist, and how have you overcome them while maintaining Odium Incarnatum's uncompromising vision?

Good heavens!!! as an independent artist the issues id say is the illegal uploads and downloads, that dont support the artists to fund the next project as it all costs alot to record, write etc the unrealibility of personnel, but little has touched Odium Incarnatum because when i set this band up, it was deliberately focused to avoid previous pitfalls and frustrations i had experienced, this project is about art, about feeling, its about me and doing my thing in a way that is positive outlet for me and positive process.

5. Your music seems to carry out a deeper meaning. What messages or themes do you hope to convey through your artistic expression?

It is about a lot of personal inspiration, i would hope that it may touch some listeners and i hope they can relate or take their own interpretation that is positive for them,

6. Away from the metal scene, musicians are very often associated with satanism. You are a black metal band - how close are you to religious themes?

I have kept away from religious themes with this band.

7. You´ve been prolific musican, being released several singles in a period of time between 2025 and 2026. Can you tell us a little bit more about the musical purpose that you went for on the recordings?

I work when i have the inspiration, it just flows out me, lyrics, riffs, album concepts etc I just go with the flow, when i dont have the inspiration to write thats when i do the one man shows and the videos.

I just wanted to find 'that sound' the feeling, the the right vibe, then when it clicked i went with it, its still developing, the new EP will really be much closer to where i want to be, just a few small tweaks. for example the vocals will be slightly muddier, the riffs have some early thrash vibes and some early death metal inspiration too to make it a little more well rounded but still sound really old and retro and underground.

8. As the sole member behind Odium Incarnatum, how do you manage the creative process of writing and composing music, lyrics, and playing multiple instruments?

I have been at it a long time, so just consistent practice and discipline when it comes to practice but the compostion really flows randomly, when it dries up!! that it im empty, but when i flows? i record as much as possible to then choose the pieces that i feel works best. it is very difficult, i wont lie! i do find it challenging but thats part of the fun.

9. Your debut EP is being prepared now and soon to be released. Can you tell us about the inspiration behind the new tracks and how it felt to release your music to the world?

The new tracks cover a range of inspiration from dealing with acute psychiatric illness, to enjoying a walk in a forest, to things i have tried to avoid reading in the news, that i have worked really hard to disconnect from. this music and this project feels really free, i feel under no pressure. its reflecting what i felt when i first got into heavy music, when i got into death, black and thrash as young guy.

10. Your latest singles sounds more mature. Explain me, please the evolution process that made you become with this pondered songs.

Thank you, thats very nice of you to say and i appreciate it. i have found this vibe by coming away from heavy music for a bit, then coming back to it with fresh ideas, personal development, increase experience and what actually got me into this music in the first place!

11. Describe your vocal delivery. I feel your rank vocal style is unique, how difficult is this to pull it off?

Again, thank you! i basically use death metal vocals, but try to keep the intonation as clear as possible so people can hear the words. i have done the whole incantation vibe ( who i really respect and love) it did sound really brutal but wanted to hear the lyrics, especially with the work i put into writing them. I find it pretty easy to use the style i have. i use good breathing and good posture, you do need to build up your stamina to deliver with the distortion but you soon develop to a point you can do it all night, its always hard going back after a lay off but soon comes back

12. When you work in the studio what kind of process do you go through? Do you come in all prepared or do you improvise?

I go to the studio totally prepared, i send the guy who does my recording, mix and master a rough guitar recording for the drums to be programmed, then he sends it back, then i sort the lyrics, verse, line and chorus lengths etc, then when i go into the studio i will easily do 4 songs in an evening. ill do 2 guitars, then bass, then vox, usually in one maybe two takes. but we have worked together for over 10 years on loads of things, so its a very slick process.

13. Can you tell a bit about the start of metal in Warsaw and what that scene was like back in the days when you started playing? How did metal music come to your area in the first place?

I came to heavy music on my own, i heard it from tapes trading with guys at school. i wanted to be in a band. no one else i knew was. i was already performing and touring alot so i jsut did my own thing, its difficult to find reliable people for bands as anyone will tell you in any country even the big bands that are being paid etc i used to go to record shops and go to the tiny metal section, and i went to underground metal stalls too, i then did some tours as a session player all over europe and really just did my own thing, the internet helped in the early days to get it going, sites like myspace, but were then shut down by the mainstream which was awful.

14. With the easy access to internet you can spread your music across the globe just sitting in front of your computer. How much effort to you put into promoting the band world-wide?

Lots!! i have sent out over 100 emails in the last 2 days, to zines, labels, and radio shows, the lot, all over the world to try and promote the band. once its established enough i will do the one man live feed shows from an obscure but cool looking location, not sure yet, in a forest, in an old ruin or in a cellar or something. my last one man show was in a barn and it was pretty well received with lots of people on facebook watching.

15. So, what’s coming out next? Anything you want to divulge from the vault of your future plans?

I have a new EP coming out and will be out on Guts and Blood records, it will be a tape release. im really looking forward to seeing how comes together and really looking forward to working with this new label.
