Interview to WORMS OUT (Canada)

1. Hey Sébastien, pleasure to have you on Rotten Pages ´zine. How are you doing today? Let us set the scene first. Where do we find you right now? Please describe your surroundings.
We (Worms Out) are in the basement of Sam's house (our drummer) in Kingsbury, a small village in Québec's eastern townships, there's around 142 inhabitants in the place, maybe 141 by now as we're hearing creepy noises around here.
2. Let’s start with the boring basics. Care to explain to the unknowing precisely where in the world you emanate such an aura of sonic destruction from?
From social injustices, human oppression from peers, prescription drugs consumption, nature and the boreal forrest, ornithology (we have a song called Vautour which is french for vulture)
3. Worms Out started initially as a project in 2022. How has Grindcore music influenced your development and growth as musician? How much exposure did you have to extreme music growing up?
Bands like Napalm Death, Anal Cunt, Drop Dead and Dhamer were listened by each of us early on. Jean (guitarist) is only capable of playing grindcore, so we stick to the genre.
4. Could you describe the vision/hallucination that inspired the name "Worms Out" and how it relates to the band's identity and music?
Vermin coming out of the Earth, There is a link to do here with Covid's end when people left their shelters and started once again to interact with each other.
5. You´ve released an selt-titled EP, which delivers a powerful, massive, and chaotic sound. Can you tell us about the inspiration behind al these tracks and how it felt to release your music to the world?
Truth be told, we are a bunch of lazy asses who put minimal effort in the diffusion of our art, the album was released as it was long time overdue and we had to move forward, you could compare the thing with Exodus who published their debut album Bonded by blood too late to have the impact this major piece of art should have had back in the days, except we're aware that our self-titled first album will have no impact at all compared to BbB!. We are keen with the social break the weekend offers and enjoy playing music together letting the madness drain from ourselves
6. Can you give us a glimpse into the creative process behind your music? How do you typically approach songwriting and arranging?
Jean is the riffmaster, he's written 90% of the stuff so far, then Sam fits whatever old school blast beat to it and Sébastien doubles the guitar with the bass. Dom's whining and complaints are harvested as they flow through, please send some help!
7. When it comes to your lyrics, what are some of the key themes you’ve chosen to focus on in Worms Out?
Social injustices observed here and there, writing a song is like a mountain you climb to deliver the message once you've reached the top

8. What were the main challenges you faced in learning to mix music and how did you overcome them?
Beer, some vegetals and the old school wayz to go through
9. How much of your work is the result of conscious deliberation and how much is spontaneous inspiration? How, if at all, has your approach changed over the years?
There is this formula: You don't change a winning formula. I guess this applies to us most of the riffs are brought by Jean (guitaris) He often cook something in his basement and present it to the band so we roll it in the flour and speedbroil the thing until it's ready to go.
10. How much of a DIY scene is there still left around the world that can support you if you want to tour or release an album on your own?
We heavily rely on fans to buy our merch so we can manage to record our labor or do whatever needs to be done. As mentionned, we put a little effort in organizing tours, we have a minimalistic approach, that is for sure!
11. I personally am not a great friend of humans. I think most people suck big time. What is wrong with mankind in your opinion?
Once the worms will go out, everything will return to baseline as good and bad elements will be slowly ingested, digested end released as fresh organic material, mankind will then be a vague souvenir and Mother Nature will be up to start again ...if she's not too pissed of to star another venture with some "superior organism" taking over once more.

12. If WORMS OUT was an odour, what the fuck could it be?
Without a doubt it would be the scent of putrefying organic matter, pure pestilential fume to your satisfaction or you get your money back
13. Any tips for people visiting Quebec this summer? Where do we go to listen to some really good music?
Facebook must be the better way to pinpoint underground shows where madness fills the air with crushing decibels, as one might have noticed, grindcore bands rarely headline big festivals
14. It might be too early, seeing as you’re working on it right now, but what can we expect from the forthcoming album?
We are looking into a split record with a local band called Varices, keep an eye open!
15. Many thanks again for your valuable time and your effort! I wish you only the best! The last words to our readers are of course yours!
Get your ass off that chair and find a goddamn Headbanging venue where some mercyless warriors are ready to get the creepiest sounds out of their gear and secretly wish some freak will slit its gut on the stage!!
